Kiwanis Kick's Off Annual Fruit Sale-
Chairman Steve Mason is assisted by former
chairman David Solger
The Kiwanis Club of Chipley has issued Fruit
Sale Order Forms to its membership and
challenged them to surpass last year’s sales.
There is an added challenge for each member to
exceed their personal best in prior years as two
of the top fruit salesmen, Farrell Nelson and
Marvin Engram, have departed this life during
the year. Chairman of this major fund raising
project is Steve Mason, assisted by David Solger
who has served as chairman for the past several
years.
As
in past years, the fruit boxes are being
supplied by “River Brite Citrus” of Fort Pierce,
FL. There are several package sizes and
varieties from Navel Oranges to Ruby Red
Grapefruit, Red Delicious Apples, Tangelos, and
Satsuma’s. For variety, there are mixed boxes
with up to three different fruits, and packages
range from a 20 pound box to a bushel of apples.
Chairman Mason announced at a recent Kiwanis
meeting, “We are offering the same prices as
2007 because the transportation costs for our
supplier have decreased with fuel prices. Last
year we absorbed the increased transportation
cost and just made less per box, so our ability
to raise money for the youth of Washington
County has improved this year.”
Orders will be taken by Kiwanis members through
Tuesday, November 24, with deliveries December
15 or shortly thereafter.
Prices range from a 20# box of Tangelos or Ruby
Red Grapefruit for $15.00 to $25.00 for the 40#
boxes, including the “Citrus Trio” boxes, and a
bushel of Red Delicious Apples is $35.00, or a
½-bushel for $22.00. All profit above the fruit
cost and transportation are used by Kiwanis in
special projects to benefit youth programs in
Washington County.
