Chipley Kiwanis Club
Marvin Ingram
Memorial Golf Tournament, Saturday, November 6, 2010

Chipley,
FL,
Saturday, November 6, 2010. After a 1-hour “frost
delay” imposed by the golf course to protect the
grass, the 2nd Annual Kiwanis Marvin Ingram Memorial
Golf Tournament teed-off at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in a
3-person scramble format with 18 teams. The weather
was clear but cold throughout the morning as the
contestants completed the 7,040 yards for 18 holes
at the Sunny Hills Golf & Country Club.
All participants were complementary about the
outstanding course conditions, and with the sun
and clear skies, the course was a multitude of
shades of green, with the ponds reflecting the trees
and sky.
Play was completed at
2:00 p.m., due to the late start, and the teams
enjoyed a hot lunch with a choice of BBQ pork or
chicken, potato salad, beans, slaw, and fresh-baked
cookies for desert.
Winners of the
overall tournament were the team of Mickey Chance,
Jeff Goodman, and Duffer Harrison with a team score
(best shots) of 58 for 18 holes. Second place went

There was an
abundance of prizes for the top finishers, as well
as door prizes drawn at random so that most players
received something of value in addition to
participating in the charitable event benefiting the
youth of Washington County. Tournament Chair Colby
Peel reported that after all costs were covered, it
appear the tournament would clear about the same as
last year, which was a record for the Kiwanis Golf
Tournaments.
At the closing,
current Kiwanis Club president David Corbin reminded
everyone that all proceeds from events like the golf
tournament, dinner theatre, fruit & nut sales,
pancake breakfast, and others, go into a special
projects fund and are never used to operate the
club, which funds administrative costs from dues
paid by members.
The Kiwanis Club of
Chipley has been providing support to youth oriented
events and programs for 70 years and last year
supported 31 organizations throughout the county.
The annual fruit sale
is underway now through December 7th with delivery
around December 17th. This year the club has also
added a gourmet 3 pound mixed nut item in a designer
tin with no peanuts, and these will be available
from merchant displays as well as from Kiwanis
members.
The club meets
Tuesdays at Pattillo’s Restaurant in the middle of
the Washington-Holmes County Technical Center (WHTC)
at Noon. For an invitation to lunch, contact any
Kiwanian or call David Solger, Membership
Chairperson, at (850) 638-1276.
