Kiwanis Club Celebrates Their Christmas Meeting

The Chipley Kiwanis Club met for its weekly luncheon at Pattillo’s Restaurant at the Washington – Holmes County Technical Center.  Because the Technical Center is on Christmas break, lunch was arranged by Ms. LaMerle Feitsma.  The Kiwanians enjoyed a lunch of ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, pineapple upside-down cake, and banana pudding.

To start the program, Mr. Larry Hinson (shown at left) played the piano and sang “It Wasn’t His Child.”  Mr. Hinson then led the Kiwanians in a medley of Christmas carols.

Next, the club received an inspirational Christmas message from the Reverend Tim Owen (below right).  The Reverend Owen is a Chipley High School graduate of 1977 and is currently the pastor of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.  Reverend Owen reminisced about growing up in Chipley and how much he now appreciated the opportunity he had to grow up with such a fine group of Christian friends.  He informed the club that it was his upbringing in Chipley that led to his desire to return ten years ago so that his children could also be raised in an environment such as Chipley, with solid community values and good neighbors.

The Reverend Owen’s message was taken from Luke, Chapter 2.  He spoke of the angels singing and announcing Christ’s birth to the world:  “Fear not….for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”  He noted that the angels were announcing news that was both good news and calming news.  The news of Christ’s birth was both good and calming because God has a plan for each of us and the Lord’s Hand will guide us through life.  Reverend Owen pointed out that not only was the angels’ message for the entire world, but that also the message was to each one of us individually.  God can zero in on each of us individually without ignoring anyone else.

In club news, Mr. Steve Mason announced the preliminary results of the annual fruit sales.  The club sold 950 boxes of fruit and all but two boxes have been delivered.  This year’s totals in fruit and money closely match last year’s amounts.  The Kiwanis Club thanked Gulf Power Company for again assisting in the fund raiser by providing space for the unloading and distribution of the fruit.

The club meets Tuesdays at Patillo’s Restaurant at noon.  For an invitation, contact any Kiwanian or call Mark Collins, Membership Chairman, at 850-258-9453.  Or, visit our website at www.chipleykiwanis.com.
