Kiwanis Club Receives Briefing on the Weekend
Chipley Christmas Activities
The
Chipley Kiwanis club met for its weekly luncheon at
Pattillo’s Restaurant at the Washington – Holmes
County Technical Center. Several local citizens
briefed the club on the activities and festivities
scheduled for Chipley during the weekend of December
4 to 6. The Downtown Chipley Christmas Festival is
sponsored by One South Bank and Chipley Gun & Pawn.
Funding was also provided by the Tourist Development
Council and the Northwest Florida Community
Hospital.
The
first speaker was Ms. Karen Roland (shown at left),
President of the Washington County Arts Council.
The Arts Council will present the “Downtown Chipley
Artists Market” from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. on
Saturday. Crafts will be displayed and for sale
from 9:00 A.M. until approximately 2:00 P.M. Crafts
will include soaps, jewelry, soy candles, decorative
glass, collages, painted gourds, children’s crafts,
and more.
Mr.
Greg Baxley, representing the Merchants of Historic
Chipley, gave an overview of the weekend
activities. Festivities will begin on Friday night
with the Christmas Stroll and Christmas Tree
Lighting. Hot chocolate and cider will be
available. After the Artists Market and parade on
Saturday morning, there will be entertainment
beginning at 2:00 P.M. which will culminate with a
live concert featuring Shane Owens and Dennis Rader
on Saturday afternoon.
The
last speaker was Ms. Sybil Compton (shown at right)
of the Women’s Club of Chipley. The Women’s Club is
sponsoring the Chipley Tour of Homes on Sunday,
December 6. Tickets for the tour are $8 and can be
purchased from any Women’s Club member or at the
Women’s Club clubhouse. All funds go towards
scholarships. The Tour of Home is from 1:00 P.M.
until 5:00 P.M. Maps are available. There will be
five homes on the tour – homes located at 224-A
Highway 273; 260 Hadley Lane; 465 Bahoma Road; 930
Main Street; and, 2222 Joy Road. All addresses are
Chipley addresses.
Also
this weekend, the Spanish Trail Playhouse is
presenting “A Tuna Christmas” on Saturday and Monday
nights at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are $10.
It was
noted that many churches are having their special
Christmas musical services this weekend and
interested people should check with the churches
about the times and dates.
At the
meeting, the Kiwanians also recognized Ms. Christina
Keppel. Christina is graduating from the Washington
– Holmes Technical Center and will continue her
studies in culinary arts at Chipola College. Ms.
Keppel has been assisting in preparing the Tuesday
lunches enjoyed by the Kiwanis Club for the past two
years.
In
other Kiwanis News, it was reported that the Chipley
Kiwanis Club is assisting with the “Pancake
Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday morning; the
annual fruit sale fundraising event appears likely
to match or surpass last year’s event, and a date of
June 10 was announced for the annual Kiwanis Pancake
Breakfast extravaganza.
The club meets
Tuesdays at Patillo’s Restaurant at noon. For an
invitation, contact any Kiwanian or call Mark
Collins, Membership Chairman, at 850-258-9453.
