At the weekly club luncheon on Tuesday, October
13th, member Kim Wilson introduced Caitlyn
Pritchard, Florida’s current state president of the
Future Farmers of America (FFA), who has won the FFA
state public speaking award with her speech “Where
Were You When Terrorists Attacked America’s
Agricultural Industry?”
Ms. Pritchard’s’ speech is a discussion on the
theoretical dangers of an imagined attack on
America’s food supply with biological weaponry
aimed at U.S. crops and animals. Though possessing
less conventional weaponry than the U.S., our
enemies may stop at nothing to disrupt American
lives and commerce by poisoning our imported and
even our domestic food sources with readily
accessible pathogens and diseases.
More vigilance is needed at our ports where less
than 5% of all imported foods are inspected.
Ms. Pritchard delivered her speech to the Kiwanians
and answered questions in preparation for her
upcoming national FFA public speaking contest.
Pritchard has also been chosen as the FFA’s
representative to Chine from Florida and will be
travelling to China in that position. Her speech
was both well delivered and received at the meeting.
Gorgeann Smith was introduced by Elaine Chadwell as
the newest member of the Chipley Kiwanis Club. Ms.
Smith manages the Regions Bank in Chipley.
Ted Everett, Executive Director of the Chamber of
Commerce, and Nicole Barefield presented a preview
of “The Washington County Outdoor Expo Gun & Knife
Show”. This family event is scheduled for Saturday,
Nov 21st, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 22nd,
Noon to 5 p.m., at the Ag Center on Hwy 90 in
